A Nigerian football has been handed the golden chance to ply his trade with English football giant, Arsenal FC as Arsene Wenger plots a revolution at the club.

Arsenal have agreed a £6.8m fee with KAS Eupen for Henry Chukwuemeka Onyekuru, according to Sky sources.

 

The Gunners have been in talks with the Belgian club since last week and are now close to landing the 19-year-old Nigerian striker. Although personal terms have not been sorted out, Onyekuru is an avid Arsenal fan and is reportedly keen on moving to the Emirates.

 

Onyekuru finished this season as the top scorer in the Jupiler League scoring 22 goals. He also attracted interest from Everton, Southampton, West Ham and West Brom. But it is the Gunners who have activated his £6.8million release clause.

 

He has already turned down moves to Belgian giants, Brugge and Anderlecht. The player is currently on international duty with Nigeria, who take on Togo in an international friendly game on Thursday.

I am happy we signed Henry Onyekuru because I have checked his profile and YouTube videos but what we need is not upcoming talents, we need ESTABLISHED strikers, tested and trusted Strikers that can singlehandedly win matches for us, that can take us places not average players. We are a big team not teams like Crystal Palace, Bournemouth or other small teams."

Nigeria have left out Chelsea star Victor Moses from their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa next month.

The 26-year-old has been Nigeria’s most outstanding player in Europe this past season but there have been doubts about his commitment to the Super Eagles.

 

Another surprise in Gernot Rohr’s 23-man squad is a first call-up for Maroof Youssef, who plays for Egyptian side Zamalek.

 

The 24-year-old, who can operate as a defensive midfielder or forward but is listed in the squad as a defender, helped the Cairo club win a league and cup double last season.

 

They also reached the last four of the 2016 CAF Champions League. Akwa United star forward Alhassan Ibrahim and goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, from FC Ifeanyi Ubah, are the only two players called up from the domestic league.

The highly publicized ‘rift’ between former Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola and his successor, Akinwumni Ambode, has been settled with the intervention of the acting president, Prof. Osinbajo.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has granted permission to the Lagos State Government to embark on total reconstruction of the International Airport Road from Oshodi.

 

In a press statement signed on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who made the disclosure, commended the Acting President for his statesman-like approach to issues and for fast tracking the process.

“We are very appreciative of the good gesture of His Excellency, the Acting President for acceding to our request which is not only very timely but a very heartwarming one. Posterity will never forget this genuine developmental action,” Ambode said.

 

He also described the approval as a 50th birthday to the people of Lagos State, describing it a further demonstration of the determination of the present administration to ensure the effectiveness of the Executive Order on improving the Ease of Doing Business recently signed by the Acting President.

 

Governor Ambode also gave kudos to President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the enabling environment to attract Foreign Direct Investment into the nation, adding that with the upgrading of the International Airport Road which is the gateway to the nation’s commercial nerve centre, the country will attract new investments.

 

The Governor had in early March this year, raised an alarm about the present state of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport Road, describing it as a national disgrace that required immediate attention to salvage the nation’s image.

 

He stated then that the State presently has a design for the reconstruction of the road as well as the funds to embark on the project but was yet to get the go ahead from the Federal Government.

 

In his words: “The road linking Oshodi to the International Airport, you would all agree with me is a national embarrassment. In the spirit of the regeneration and urbanisation that this administration has set out to achieve, we believe strongly that the image that is exhumed by the decadence of that road must be repaired and we took it upon ourselves to appropriate the 2017 budget that the House of Assembly should approve the total reconstruction of the Airport Road from Oshodi to the International Airport.

“The State currently has a design of 10 lanes to come from Oshodi to the International Airport with interchange and flyover that would drop you towards the Local Airport. The contractor is already set to go and everything as I said has been completed and we already have the cash, but alas we are having challenges with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

 

"This is a Federal and not a State road. The Federal Ministry of Works believes that they should do the road, but they have not been able to do it all these years past.”

 

Governor Ambode had said if given the approval, his administration was ready to hit the ground running and begin construction of the Airport Road within two weeks and finish same within a period of six months. Besides, the Governor also implored the Federal Government to avail the State of the N2billion appropriated for the Airport Road in the 2017 National Budget to carry out the project.

 

“I just want to appeal to the Federal Ministry of Works, to let go or reimburse us with whatever it is that they are owing us and even if they are not willing to pay us now, we have the money to do it. It is a national disgrace and we would not be part of it. We would like to do it as part of the celebration of Lagos at 50,” Governor Ambode had said then.

 

It would be recalled that the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in its reaction said the delay in granting the request the of Lagos State was because the Memorandum conveying the request of Lagos State which was already before the Federal Executive Council has not reached completion stage.

“The Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing Ministry has presented the Memorandum conveying the request of the Lagos State Government to the Federal Executive Council as was done with a similar request by the Kaduna State Government in 2016.

“Due to the fact that TWO of the roads also connect Ogun State, the Federal Executive Council could not reach an immediate decision on them because it requested the input of the other State Government affected”, the federal ministry explained.

Two Important Lessons Learnt From a 500 Naira Note (Must Read)

 

1. It happened some time ago but . I was in an audience listening to a motivational speaker. The speaker got out his wallet & pulled out a 500 Naira note. Holding it up, he asked, “Who wants this 500 naira note?”
Lots of hands went up. Including mine. A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout “Me!” “Me!” I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose. And I also secretly wondered (and I am sure others did too ) why he would simply give away 500 naira. Even as the shouts of “I want it” grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran up onto the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the five 500 naira note from his hand.

 

“Well done, young lady,” said the speaker into the microphone. The speaker simply say “Most of us just sit and wait for good things to happen. That’s of no use. You’ve got to make things happen. Make a move” ‘Simply thinking about doing something is of no use and not gud enough’. Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things. But the problem is we don’t take action. We all want the 500 naira notes on offer. But we don’t make the move. We look at it longingly. Get up, and do something about it.

 
2. later, the speaker got another 500 naira note and held it up for all to see, I thought I knew what’s up. But he just asked a simple question. “How much is this worth?” “Five Hundred naira!” the crowd yelled in unison. “Right,” said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked “How much is it worth now?” “Five Hundred naira!” screamed the audience. He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: “And how much is it worth now?” “Five Hundred naira!” was the response. “I want you to remember this,” said the speaker. “Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish. We should all be like the 500 naira note. In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish

In a statement released by the General Secretary, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja, Pope Francis has appointed a parish priest as Bishop of Bauchi Diocese.

Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr Hilary Dechelem, parish priest of Church of Immaculate Conception Upper hill, Makurdi as Bishop of Bauchi Diocese.

 

Rev. Fr Ralph Madu, General Secretary, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja announced this in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

 

The ordination date for the Bishop-elect is yet to be announced.

 

Dechelem was born on June 3, 1966 in the former Benue Plateau State.

 

Madu informed that Dechelem is a native of Moeda–Kwalla from Kwampan Plateau and attended L.E.A Primary School, Kabala, St Catherine’s Makurdi and Central Primary School, Awe, Nassarawa State respectively.

 

Dechelem had his Secondary Education at St Peters College Toto, St John Bosco, Doma and Government Secondary School Obi all in Nassarawa State.

 

The Claretian Missionaries admitted him in 1986 at Nekede Owerri for Petulancy, had his first Religious Profession in 1988 at Utonkon, Benue and Final Religious Profession in 1993 at Maryland, Nekede, Owerri.

 

The Bishop-elect was ordained priest in 1995 at Kwa Parish, Jos Archdiocese, had Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Claretian Institute of Philosophy in 1990, an affiliate of the Pontifical Urban University, Rome.

 

He had a Master’s Degree in theology from Spiritan International School of Theology, Attakwu, Enugu in 1995 an affiliate of Duquesne University Pittsburg Pennsylvania, U.S.

 

He also had a Master’s Degree in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University Omaha, Nebraska, U.S, and a Certificate Course in Spiritual Direction from Creighton University in 2014.

 

He Studied Masters in Business Administration and Project Management Technology at Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo.

 

He is presently doing his doctorate degree in Policy Analysis and Public Administration at the University of Abuja.

 

He worked as Bursar and part time lecturer 1995 at the Claratian Institute of Philosophy, Nekede and was elected in the Provincial Council as Consulter of Economy 1999 and Consulter of Spirituality, 2005.

 

The Bishop-elect was a member of the General Economic Council (GEC) of the Claretian Congregation in Rome 2003 to 2006.

 

He was the Parish Priest Maria Goretti, Parish Ikenegbu, Owerri Archdiocese 2005 to 2010 and also Parish Priest St John Mary Vianney Parish Kwande, Shendam Diocese and Vicar for Religious 2010.

 

He is a lecturer and a core team, Institute for Formators, Du, Jos, from 2015 till date.

Manchester United have overtaken Real Madrid to become the most valuable club in Europe, despite finishing sixth in the Premier League this season, according to a study by professional services firm KPMG.

The report, now it its second year, looked at the finances of the top 39 clubs in Europe based on their popularity on social media, revenues for 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons and success in European competitions.

Despite two relatively disappointing seasons on the pitch between 2014 and 2016, United’s value surged clear of Real Madrid and Barcelona last year, becoming the first club to break the 3billion euros (£2.7bn) mark for enterprise value.

United not only make more money than any other football club in the world, they also have nearly half a billion pounds of debt.

Bayern Munich remain in fourth place, while Manchester City edge past Arsenal to take fifth spot, both with enterprise values of just under £1.7billion. Alisher Usmanov’s recently rebuffed bid for the latter valued the North London club at £1.54billion.

Man Strips N*ked For Stealing Church Fan to buy Gari, Rice, Palm Oil (Photos)

A young man, who attempted to steal a fan from a branch of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Onifade Town, Ayobo area of Ogun State yesterday, was apprehended.

The suspect, identified as Dele, told the mob that almost lynched him that he stole the fan because he needed money to buy gari, rice and palm oil.

He reportedly walked into the church, unplugged one of the standing fans from a wall socket and took it away.

One of the church workers, who had gone to clean the auditorium prior to an evening meeting, sighted the suspect coming out with the fan. The stranger’s behaviour arouse the church worker’s curiosity.

When he demanded to know where the stranger was taking the item to, the latter took to his heels, consequent upon which an alarm was raised.

The suspect, as gathered, attempted to board two commercial motorcycles with a view to escaping from the scene. The third one, rather than pick him, according to eyewitnesses, held him until the mob caught up with him.

In the course of interrogation, he revealed that he came from Kaka area of Ayobo, pleading to be pardoned.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Badmos Gbamgboye, said: “He threw away the fan when the second motorcyclist he tried to board refused to wait. It was the third motorcyclist that held him.

“When he was asked why he chose the church, he said he felt that members would forgive him if caught. He said that his intention was to sell the stolen fan so he can buy food to eat.

“He said in Pidgin Englisg ‘I wan use the money buy yam, gari, rice and palm oil for house because I dey hungry’.”

However, he was stripped Nakked and forced to carry the stolen fan on his head.

He would have been lynched but for the intervention of  some church’s members.

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has said that his relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari remained cordial, despite false claims in some social media.

 

He made this known when the National Executive of the Islamic group, Jamaatu Izalatul Bidiah Wa Ikamatus Sunnali (JIBWS) led by its President, Mohammed Jingiri visited him at the National Assembly.

 

The President of the Senate debunked allegations that he and the Senate are working against President Buhari.

”I want to assure you of the good cooperation between the legislative arm and executive led by President Muhammudu Buhari.

”Since the commencement of this Senate, I think we had about 196 requests from President Buhari for confirmation of his nominees and we have confirmed 185. I think, we have only rejected 11. By Mathematics, that is over 90 per cent.

“I want to assure you there is a lot of noise, you will see in the newspapers, radio and social media, please, be assured that the two arms of government are working closely together, more than in past sessions of the Senate.

”In January, I went to see him and assured him of our cooperation and we have continued to work closely.

“I want to assure you as we always say, let us be judged by our actions and not by talk. I want you to convey the same message to your followers, who because of social media and the fake news they hear over radio, they get wrong impression that we in the Senate are working against the President.

"I assure you that we have a very cordial relationship with the Executive,” he said.

 

Saraki also reaffirmed the commitment of the Senate in ensuring good governance, economic stability and creation of jobs for the teeming unemployed youths.

 

He promised to ensure that all Bills to be passed by the Senate would ensure that religious sentiments of Nigerians were taken into consideration.

 

The Senate President told the group that the Gender Bill currently before the National Assembly would be fair to all religious groups.

”I want to reassure you on our greatest concern, particularly in the issue of Gender Bill. Here in the National Assembly, we pass laws and whatever law we pass, we take into consideration the religious aspects.

”There is no law that can disregard the religious sentiments of the citizens. So, we have discussed that whatever final version of the law that will come for discussion, because it is still for discussion, it is just a proposal, it should not be one that would have conflict with religion. I want to assure you of that”, he said.

 

According to him, the final version of the gender bill will be such that all religious sentiments are taken care of and Nigerians would be proud of.

 

Saraki pledged that the senate will continue to play its roles by bringing political balancing and stability into consideration.

“We will do what we know is best for this country. We will strive to work to keep this country together”, he said.

 

Earlier, the leader of the group, Mohammed Jingirr, commended the Senate President on his role in the arrangement that led to the rejection of the Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket for the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in the 2015 presidential elections.

 

He added that Nigeria was not ripe for such an arrangement, which did not take into consideration the need for religious balance in the country, as all religious interest must be represented at all times, including elections.

 

According to him, religious balancing must at all times be respected in Nigeria as only this will ensure harmony.

 

The Islamic cleric also commended the National Assembly for rejecting same $ex marriages and capital punishment, describing them not in line with Islamic injunctions.

 

He also urged the Senate President to ensure that the current Gender Bill reflects the tenets of all religions.

 

Sheik Jingiri called on the Senate to ensure equality of representations in political appointments in line with the population of states.

 

He also called for cordial relationship between all arms of government for the benefit of the people.

 

The leader of JIBWS prayed for the quick recovery of President Buhari, who is currently on medical vacation in London.

All Progressives Congress governor, Rochas Okorocha has relieved his entire cabinet members of their duties in a bid to reform his administration.

Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, has sacked the state executive council and 27 local government transition committees, with immediate effect.

 

A statement by Pascal Obi, principal secretary to the governor, directed all former members of the executive to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries.

 

Obi quoted the governor as appreciating the invaluable contributions of the affected appointees to the success recorded by his “rescue mission” administration.

 

According to him, the secretary to the government, the chief of staff, chairmen and members of statutory commissions such as ISEC, Civil Service Commission, local government service commission were not affected.

 

“Also not affected in the cabinet shake-up are the state universal basic education board, the judicial service commission, and the house of assembly service commission,” the statement read.

 

“The governor also dissolved the 27 transition committees (TC) of the 27 local government areas in the state.

“The transition committee (TC) chairmen are advised to hand over to the directors of administration and general services of their respective council areas.

“The governor appreciates the contributions of the TC chairmen to the success of the rescue mission and wishes them well in their future endeavours.”

 

The governor did not state any reason for the action. Okorocha took a similar action in 2013 when he sacked members of the state executive council mid-way into their weekly meeting.

 

The commissioners in attendance had expressed shock.

A retired director of the Federal Ministry of Finance has died after slumping as he made to join his friends at a Club in the Garki area of Abuja.

A 65-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Ayodele, has died after slumping as he made to join his friends at Amity Club in the Garki  area of Abuja.

 

Ayodele, who is a retired director of the Federal Ministry of Finance, was said to have parked his car outside the club premises and was entering the facility when he fell.

 

The man who is described as an active member of the Abuja club, was reportedly rushed to the Sanklin Hospital, Mabushi where he gave up the ghost on Wednesday.

 

While speaking to Northern City News, a friend to the deceased, Kazeem Idowu, disclosed that Ayodele’s death shocked everyone as he did not show any sign of illness before his sudden passage.

 

Idowu, the Assistant Secretary-General of Amity Club described the former director as an active man of “ebullient personality”, noting that he was loved by everyone.

 

He said, “Ayodele’s death was shocking to say the least because he was a very active person and a staunch member of the club; he has held several positions in the club and was well respected by everyone.

“He was about entering the club when he slumped and was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, he died. We shall miss him.”

 

Members of the deceased family could not be reached for comment. His children were said to be overseas.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday said its newly acquired all-weather helicopter gunship, Mi-35M Super Hind, recorded its first hit in battle against the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

 

Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore, Olatokunbo Adesanya  said on  21 May, NAF Component of Operation “LAFIYA DOLE” conducted an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission in Parisu, Borno which led to serious casualty on the side of the insurgents.

 

“During the ISR mission, a large structure with solar panels and flags suspected to harbour high value insurgents was discovered, alongside other similar structures hidden under trees.

“Accordingly, on May 22, two attack helicopters; the Mi-17 and the newly inducted day and night, all weather gunship, Mi-35M Super Hind were scrambled to conduct strikes on the location in succession,” he said.

 

Adesanya said battle damage assessment revealed that several structures in the target area were engulfed in fire as a result of the strikes and a few insurgents survivors were seen scampering from the location.

 

In another development, NAF helicopter gunships also destroyed nine hidden barges with stolen oil products in several creeks within the Niger Delta under the framework of Operation “DELTA SAFE”

 

According to him, the destruction of the barges was aimed at making the stealing of the nation’s oil products futile, dangerous and unattractive.

Encomium.ng had an interview with the estranged wife on what led to their marriage break up.

 

Apart from being beaten, her story of financial deprivation laced with humongous lies by her actor husband of ten years whom she accused of living a reckless life, sounds unimaginable.

 

Ibitola Branch also told us about her husband’s incarceration in Kirikiri and abandonment for ten months.

 

Here’s the mother of two children’s side of the marital mess…

 

We heard that you and Femi Branch have called it quit. Is it true?

 

Yes, it is

 

What actually happened?

 

I came back from work that day, and he went out as well. I waited till 11 pm and I didn’t see him. I tried calling him on phone when I didn’t see him. He complained that I was screaming, I apologized for screaming and I asked him for his whereabouts. I told him he wouldn’t have gone that long since he wasn’t on location. All he said was that he was coming, he also said I was screaming which I apologized for again. But Femi did not come back to the house till 1am. I was up waiting since he said he was coming. When he came, I went to open the gate and I told his friend that I wouldn’t come down that late again if he comes back late. I was really upset. I asked his friend to warn him because of another time. I added that he should be telling me if he would come home or not because that wasn’t his first time. The next thing Femi said was, “You dey craze.” And I replied the same way. He started bragging, “Do you know who you are talking to? I am Femi Branch,” and he descended on me and started beating me. He was hitting me hard and his friend was trying to stop him. He left me and went upstairs and told me to meet him upstairs. His friend said I shouldn’t go, but where will I go by that time? So I went upstairs. Femi continued beating me and insulting me. His friend tried to intervene again, all these while I never raised my hands against him. You can imagine him with his stature hitting me. His friend said I shouldn’t sleep in the house, so I followed him because he was also a married man with a kid. I slept in his house that night.

 

 

 

What is the name of his friend?

 

I wouldn’t want to drag him into this, it was a close friend of his.

 

Would that be the first time he would be beating you?

 

Truth is, that was the first time. But before then, he had pushed me hard against the bed that I almost hit my head on the wall. That was two years ago. Such things don’t happen without signs, him pushing me the first time and now beating me. It could develop into something else. I have always said I can’t stay in a marriage if the man is beating me, I know I can get killed if it continues. I have risked my life enough in that marriage so I decided to leave.

 

What happened next after moving to his friend’s house?

 

The second day, his younger brother asked me to come over to his own house as he wasn’t happy I was staying in a friend’s house. I moved there and was shuttling between that place and my sister’s house till I could get a place of my own.

 

What were the signs that showed things were getting really bad?

 

The issue is that we women see signs even before marriage. I would like to say that Femi came extremely late on our wedding day. People were already waiting for almost three hours before Femi came and he was not apologetic about it.

 

What exactly happened?

 

I don’t know, but it took him almost three hours before he showed up and he was not remorseful about it. Then, when I got married to him, he has only paid my daughter’s school fees for just one term. My daughter is nine years, that means I am the one who has been responsible for her upkeep.

 

What was his excuse for not being responsible?

 

He made me believe he does not have money. Later on, I heard he goes out and spends money anyhow. He goes to clubs, pops champagne and spends crazily. It was a regular occurrence, people used to call me that he was in one hotel or the other. There was this particular day someone called me that he was in a hotel spending money. That person knew Femi was not responsible at home. All I was trying to do was to patch the marriage and make sure things were fine. You know in the African setting when you are married, you have to endure. Up till this moment that I am talking to you, he doesn’t know how his children are eating or faring. The last time he saw them was January this year. He said they should spend the New Year with him and he returned them empty handed.

 

Was there no time you called him to order?

 

Several times, we spoke severally. He was always saying jobs were not coming, he doesn’t have money.

 

Femi is a successful actor getting lead roles, so why was he irresponsible?

 

It is unfortunate outsiders have a different picture of him. Femi is someone who can be in church speaking in tongues and the next minute he is out with the guys drinking, smoking and womanizing. He acts a lot. He is not the same person at home and outside.

 

Are his parents and siblings aware of this?

 

Funny enough, he has a very wonderful family. They knew about it and spoke with him severally. In fact, his family made me stay this long in the marriage. His family complained and talked to him, they did everything they could. It is only prayer that can change him, Femi lies a lot.

 

Can you give me instances?

 

He would tell me he has gone on location and he would lodge in a hotel, do whatever he likes. There was a time he was part of the crew following Jimi Agbaje during his campaign period. I was in Abeokuta then. After the whole exercise, everybody left the hotel except Femi. He was enjoying himself. One of his colleagues whom I had complained to called me to inform me that he was the only one left in the hotel. It is the same hotel he is indebted to now. He has a case at the Ikeja magistrate court. The story is true that he was locked up in Kirikiri. He is owing the hotel to the tune of millions.

 

What steps did you take about this?

 

I asked, spoke with him and he would always give excuses. It is what Femi wants that he will do. It took him eight months before he came home. When he was arrested, I was in Abeokuta and he was in Lagos. I traveled to Lagos that night to bail him out but I couldn’t bail him that night. That was in November 2015. I did all these for Femi but to him I have done nothing.

 

Where exactly did you guys meet?

 

We met in a church in Abeokuta.

 

I thought you guys met in school. I should have said you should have noticed some of these traits in him?

 

No, we never went to the same school.

 

Which school did you attend?

 

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

 

What about him, we learnt he graduated from Ife?

 

I don’t know if he graduated or not. You can go to Ife and ask.

 

But you were married for ten years, how come you don’t know?

 

I told you Femi lies a lot. Ask him to produce his certificate. He has lied so much and he will continue to lie, that was what he told me.

 

Is it true that he was married before he met you?

 

Yes, he was married before we met. According to what I heard, the lady didn’t stay up to a month. I was told a funny story about it, I was told the mother-in-law was to collect cow leg and the lady left.

 

Cow leg, how?

 

I think they were to share a cow and she wanted a particular part of the cow. I don’t really know, that was what I was told. Maybe the lady noticed something else. If I have the opportunity to meet her I would ask her. My parents didn’t believe the story as well, we just let things be.

 

Have you heard he wants to get married again?

 

Yes, I have. I was just laughing, and I said, Wow, Femi has caught a big fish. According to what I heard, the lady is British. I said Femi has caught a big one.

How would you say such a thing?

 

Because I know Femi, he would only go to women who have money.

 

That means he married you for your money?

 

I am not saying that but before I married him, I do travel out a lot for leisure. When we got talking, he had the idea of the type of life l lived before meeting him. Maybe he felt I had money or that I had a British citizenship. I was even pregnant before we got married but the baby was still birth. Immediately it happened, I traveled abroad to rest. Good for the lady, I pray they find happiness together. But there must be more to why Femi wants to marry that lady. I am not granting this interview because I am bitter, I have moved on. I just want to clear my conscience because my family didn’t know what I went through for ten years. It was when I left last year that I told my family. People have called to blame me, some said I should go back to him.

Has he filed for divorce?

 

We are just separated, not divorced.

How come he is getting married again?

 

We had a white wedding and a traditional one.

But you had a marriage certificate?

 

Yes, we were given one but we are not divorced. We got married in a white garment church.

 

Why did you leave your children in the first instance?

 

When I left the house, my children were with my parents for holiday. When the holiday was over, I went to pick my children and took them back to our house. I told them to go upstairs that I was coming. I then turned my back and left. I did that not because I wanted to leave my children, but I wanted his family to be sure of all I had been saying,). I knew he can’t take care of those children. I was crying when I left and I prayed that I would get them back, it was not up to two weeks that Femi took the children to the village, to his parents. He did not drop money for their upkeep or anything, so his parents took them to public school and he never visited them for once in that four months they were there from April to July. I went there two times to check on them, I later called him that I wanted the children back. He said was l not the one who dumped them before? I told him I needed to make a statement that he couldn’t take care of his children that was why I left them in the first place. He eventually released the children. Arrangement was made, he picked them up and dropped them at his brother’s house and I picked them there.

 

Was there no intervention from his siblings or parents to reconcile the two of you?

 

When the incident happened, some of his elder brothers tried to call and I told them that I was no longer interested. Family members were trying to reconcile but the person that caused the trouble was not remorseful. He did not apologize for beating me, he didn’t say he was sorry. This was the same person that had an accident in 2012 on location. I was the only one taking care of him. You know marriages have their own challenges, I have stayed through thick and thin. I covered up for so long, my mum will always call me, Are you okay? Are you sure you are okay? I almost shut my mum up on his case. I have never done that in my life. My mum will always complain that I was always telling her he was on location, that it means he doesn’t have time for his family. But I always calm her down. His family tried but I have made up my mind about the marriage. I don’t think I can endure any longer. If Femi reads this, he knows that I am not lying. I was practically fending for the family throughout the ten years. Someone asked me, ‘Does it mean he has not done anything good for you in the last ten years?’ And I told the person the bad he did was far more than the good. I don’t want my daughter to go through what I went through in marriage, and I don’t want my son to be like his father.

 

You left him in April and he’s getting married a year after, do you suspect they started dating before you left him?

 

I don’t think so. I heard the church he attends now did the matchmaking.

 

Did the church call to intervene in the case?

 

No, they never did. No one knows what he told them about me.
