Rondo out of Bulls' lineup after being benched for poor play

CHICAGO (AP) -- Rajon Rondo is out of the Chicago Bulls' lineup, one day after being benched for poor play.
Michael Carter-Williams started at point guard against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday after Rondo was benched for the second half in a loss at Indiana the previous day.
Coach Fred Hoiberg called it a "strictly basketball" move. He would not say if Rondo or Jerian Grant would back up Carter-Williams.
The move comes with the Bulls in a 3-7 tailspin heading into Saturday's game. Rondo was held out for the final two quarters against the Pacers after a scoreless first half in which he had three fouls and a minus-20 in the plus/minus category.
Benching Rondo was not what the Bulls' had in mind after the four-time All-Star signed a $30 million, two-year contract. But he has been inconsistent, averaging 7.2 points and 7.1 assists. He also served a one-game suspension three weeks ago for detrimental conduct to the team, and with the team looking for a spark - particularly early in games - Hoiberg decided to go with Carter-Williams.
Hoiberg said he met with Rondo at the team's practice facility on Saturday morning.
"He was very professional, talked about accepting whatever role he has and helping our guys stay ready," Hoiberg said. "I was proud of how he handled the situation (Friday) night. He was cheering for the guys on the bench and talking to them when they came out for rotation reasons. He's handled it well and we'll see how it goes."
Does the presence of Carter-Williams make Rondo expendable?
"I don't know about that," Hoiberg said.
Carter-Williams returned Monday after missing about two months with injuries to his left knee and left wrist. He was hurt Oct. 31 at Brooklyn and had appeared in just six games prior to Saturday's matchup with the Bucks.
A first-round pick by Philadelphia in 2013, Carter-Williams has averaged 14.2 points in his career. He was acquired by the Bulls in a trade with Milwaukee on Oct. 17.

China announces ban on ivory trade by end of 2017

Ivory is burned in Kenya
China has announced a ban on all ivory trade and processing activities by the end of 2017.
Conservation groups hailed the decision as "historic" and a "game-changer" for the future of elephants. The move follows a resolution at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) in South Africa in October.
China has the biggest ivory market in the world - some estimates suggest 70% of the world's trade ends up there.

Great leadership'

China's State Council announced the details of the ban on Friday.
The commercial processing and sale of ivory will stop by 31 March, and all registered traders will then be phased out, bringing a full halt to the market by the end of the year.
Conservation group WWF welcomed the latest news, calling it a "historic announcement... signalling an end to the world's primary legal ivory market and a major boost to international efforts to tackle the elephant poaching crisis in Africa"
Elly Pepper, deputy director of wildlife trade for the Natural Resources Defense Council, praised China for its "great leadership" on the issue.
"Setting such an aggressive timeline to close - once and for all - the largest domestic ivory market in the world is globally significant.
"It's a game changer and could be the pivotal turning point that brings elephants back from the brink of extinction," she said.
While the international market in ivory has been closed since 1989, legal domestic markets have continued in many countries around the world.
A surge in the killing of elephants over the past seven years has seen populations across Africa shrink by a third, according to the recently published Great Elephant Census.
China had backed the Cites resolution in October, surprising participants with the strength of its support for a ban.
Some delegates said Beijing had wanted an even stronger resolution.

$150 homes revive ancient techniques to fight climate crisis

Deforestation and climate change has drastically reduced the supply of wood and straw in the Sahel region of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Among the damaging effects of this is a shortage of material to build and maintain homes, and millions now suffer in sub-standard housing.
Millions of households in the Sahel region of West Africa live under a growing threat.
Deforestation and climate change have decimated the available supply of wood that is used for traditional roof construction, forcing many to use imported sheet metal.
This is both prohibitively expensive and unsuited to the climate, entrenching poverty and making homes that boil in summer and freeze in winter.
One creative enterprise is reaching back over 3,000 years for a solution, borrowing an architectural technique from the ancient Nubian civilization of latter-day Sudan to offer superior homes at minimal cost.
The NGO La Voute Nubienne (Nubian Vault) is training an army of masons to build homes from the earth, and the ancient innovation is having a profound impact.

For all seasons

The Nubian technique uses bricks and mortar produced from local earth, laid over a foundation of rocks. A home can be produced in 15 days, and the method is versatile enough to produce a range of buildings from mosques to farmhouses.
La Voute Nubienne is working in five West African countries; Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Benin and Ghana, where around 20,000 people now live in the Nubian homes.
"We have proved our concept is viable and works for the population," says Thomas Granier, a French builder who co-founded the NGO with Burkinabe partner Séri Youlou. "There are half a billion Africans living under corrugated iron roofing and our target is to provide a strong alternative."
The earth homes offer more than expediency, as they are well adapted to the local climate.
"Nubian Vault buildings provide excellent thermal insulation, making the buildings cool during the day and warm during the night," says Nick Nuttall, spokesperson for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

A roof, a skill, a market

La Voute Nubienne believe that long term success depends on building a sustainable market, as expressed in their motto: "A roof, a skill, a market."
The NGO has trained over 500 masons, according to Granier. This new workforce can respond to increasing demand, as well as training a new generation to sustain the practice.
One-third of the new construction market is now fully autonomous, and the proportion is rising.
"When we have deployed enough capacity this won't belong to us, it will belong to the community," says Granier. "The target is push this alternative until we don't have to and it pushes itself."
The market model does not make the homes unaffordable. Granier estimates the cost of a basic building at $150, although in many cases the owner will supply some of their own labor, or barter goods for part of the mason's fee.
But despite the informal nature of the industry it is making significant contributions to the local economies, valued at over $2 million by the NGO, and this figure is set to rise.

Goldberg and Brock Lesnar are the Rumble Match's star attractions
Thirty men will try to earn a main-event match at WrestleMania 33 when they compete in the Royal Rumble - including Goldberg and Brock Lesnar.
Goldberg announced he would enter the Royal Rumble a day after he decimated Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, the veteran smashing The Beast Incarnate in under two minutes in Toronto in November.
A week later, Lesnar's advocate, Paul Heyman, confirmed that his client would also take part in the 30-man melee, putting The Anomaly on a possible collision course with his autumn conqueror.
You can see whether Goldberg and Lesnar clash - and if either of them wins the match and heads on to headline The Show of Shows, by watching WWE Royal Rumble on Sky Sports Box Office on Sunday, January 29.
Also at WWE Royal Rumble, which will take place inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Roman Reigns will challenge Raw rival Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship
Reigns looked poised to rip the title from Owens at Roadblock: End of the Line in December - until Chris Jericho interfered to ensure his best friend retained the strap via disqualification.
Jericho should be unable to impact the result in Texas, though, as, by the decree of Raw General Manager Mick Foley, he will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage!
Plus, John Cena will attempt to match Ric Flair's record of 16 world titles when he takes on reigning WWE Champion AJ Styles, the man he lost to at Money in the Bank, SummerSlam and No Mercy earlier this year.

John Cena is interested in a match with wrestling legend The Undertaker after making his return to WWE television. However, speaking before he appeared on the blue brand for the first time in two months on Tuesday night, he said that he would also like to compete against WWE 'cornerstone' Undertaker.
The 39-year-old has faced The Phenom in five singles bouts in WWE - each man has secured two wins apiece, while they also fought to a no contest on an episode of Raw in 2006.
"If you're asking if I'd want to be in a high-profile match with one of the most legendary superstars in the industry, my answer is yes," said Cena.
"I really would have liked to get to know and certainly get in the ring with Andre the Giant because of all the respect and folklore that went around with him.
"I think The Undertaker has that same sort of respect and folklore around him - he certainly is a cornerstone of WWE."

Grizzlies and Kings take aim at each other

The Memphis Grizzlies will arrive in Sacramento on Saturday anxious to end the year on an even note, by cancelling out an earlier loss to the Kings. Just under two weeks ago, Sacramento took advantage of a rare Memphis off-day to batter the Grizzlies to submission in their own building via a 96-92 victory. The Grizzlies will be hoping to return the favour.
The Grizzlies, who currently sit in the 7th playoff position in the Western Conference, are 5.5 games ahead of the team just beneath them. That team is the Sacramento Kings. To say the Grizzlies have been inconsistent will be stating the obvious: in the last 11 games, they have lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz, Orlando Magic, and twice against the Boston Celtics.
In that same time frame, they’ve defeated the Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Houston Rockets. Talk of a team with Jekyll and Hyde traits.
Sacramento have no such issues. They went on a four-game win-spin that ended with a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday, and have won six of their last 11. The Grizzlies managed to win only five games, though it can be argued that all five victories came against arguably better opponents.
The flip side is that the Kings have not dropped a game at home since Carmelo Anthony scored 33 points in a 103-100 win on 10 December. To counter that, Marc Gasol, who scored 38 points in 37 minutes in the last road win for the Grizzlies away to the Detroit Pistons, may need to recreate the same form if his team want to win this one.
Memphis are currently averaging 98.2 points per game (ppg), with Gasol dropping 20.1 of that total. He is getting the biggest help from Mike Conley, 18.1ppg. Conley came into the first meeting at Memphis off the injury list after missing nine games with a back problem. The point guard then missed the chance to tie the game when his three-point shot was off at the buzzer. Conley’s is another influence that will go some ways in deciding this tie.
The other Grizzlies to look out for are Zach Randolph and Tony Allen. Randolph, a power forward, has seen his production drop below his career averages since he lost his starting position to JaMychal Green, but he still produces good numbers coming off the bench.
Tony Allen on the other hand, is producing higher than his career averages, as his points per game number (10.1) is in double-figures (career 8.2), he will be the most easily recognisable shooting guard on court, and Grizzlies fans will hope he is in the mood to ball.
Sacramento Kings’ players have been the subjects of speculation since the season tipped off: will DeMarcus Cousins be traded? Will Kostas Koufos head to Houston? These speculations don’t seem to have fazed the team, but with the trade window getting closer, how long before the effects of the speculation start showing?
Then there are the injuries. Arron Afflalo and Rudy Gay are two of the most experienced players in the franchise, and both will not be available for the Grizzlies game. One veteran who will be available however, is Anthony Tolliver. The veteran big man has the ability to space the floor, has been a positive influence in the locker room, and has been an outstanding player for the young Kings since he was picked up in July.
It may be the last game of the year for both teams, but with a playoff place still a possibility, expect the Grizzlies and the Kings to go full throttle for this one.

More cancer specialists needed by Nigeria

Head, Oncology and Radiology Department at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Aderemi Ajekigbe, has lamented the dearth of cancer specialists in the country. According to him, there are only 50 oncologists in Nigeria, of which three of the top five are inching closer to their retirement and may retire at the same time.
He further stressed that Nigeria needs more cancer specialists to fight cancer, which he said could be treated if detected on time. Ajekigbe made this known while delivering the keynote address at an end-of-year party/sponsorship award for cancer patients in the hospital organised by the Atinuke Cancer Foundation.
He said, “We need more oncologists and cancer specialists in Nigeria to treat cancer patients. The only functional cancer machine that we have in LUTH stopped working a few days ago and we do not know when it would pick up again. Nigeria has the money to provide these facilities and I’ve always said the Federal Government should dedicate an oil bloc to cancer treatment.’’
On her part, founder of the foundation, Mrs. Tinuke Lawal-Sanusi, a cancer survivor, urged government to rehabilitate hospitals nationwide so that people could have access to quality healthcare.
She said, “We are advocating for the renovation of our hospitals and an overhaul of the health sector. People die every day, not only from cancer, but from other ailments because we do not have the facilities to help them. This foundation was established when I completed my radiotherapy and chemotherapy. When I was diagnosed of breast cancer in 2014, I didn’t realise that I was sitting on a time bomb. I waited until 2016 before I started my treatment and luckily, I survived it.’’
The Chairman of the event and former Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority, Mr. Ola Oresanya, stressed the need for proper counselling after initial diagnosis of cancer as people must be emotionally stabilised if they want to fight and win the battle,
“What cancer patients do when they hear heart-wrenching messages about their health is very important, so they must be managed well. We have heard cases of people who committed suicide after they heard about certain life-threatening conditions that they had,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, LUTH, Professor Femi Fasanmade, expressed delight that LUTH partnered with the foundation in organising the event.

Breaking News; Istanbul nightclub leaves 35 dead..

At least 35 people were killed and 40 wounded in a “terror” attack in Istanbul Sunday when gunmen reportedly dressed as Santa stormed an elite nightclub where partygoers were celebrating the New Year, the latest carnage to rock Turkey after a bloody 2016.
Two gunmen entered the venue dressed as Santa and spraying bullets at random inside the Reina nightclub, one of the city’s most exclusive party spots, Dogan news agency said.
“Unfortunately, at least 35 of our citizens lost their lives. One was a police officer. Forty people are receiving treatment in hospitals,” Vasip Sahin told reporters at the scene of the nightclub on the Bosphorus in the city’s European side.
“What happened today is a terror attack,” he added.
Many party-goers threw themselves into the Bosphorus in panic after the attack and efforts were underway to rescue them from the waters, NTV television said.
Dogan news agency reported that some witnesses claimed the attackers were “speaking Arabic” while NTV broadcaster said special force police officers were still searching the nightclub.
TV images showed the scene cordoned off by police officers. According to Dogan, there were at least 700 revellers celebrating the start of 2017 at the club.
Television pictures showed the New Year partygoers — including men in suits and women in cocktail dresses — emerging out of the nightclub in a state of shock.
The nightclub in the Ortakoy district of Istanbul is one of the most elite spots in the city, and getting inside past the bouncers who seek out only the best dressed is notoriously hard.

– ‘Bloody 2016 Reflection –

Turkey has been hit by a string of attacks in recent months blamed on Kurdish militants and Islamic State jihadists.
On December 10, 44 people were killed in a double bombing in Istanbul after a football match hosted by the top side Besiktas.
That attack, which targeted a police bus, was claimed by the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK) seen as a radical offshoot of the PKK.
A week later, fourteen Turkish soldiers were killed and dozens more wounded in a suicide car bombing blamed on Kurdish militants targeting off-duty conscripts also claimed by the TAK.
The recent spike in violence has capped a bloody 2016 in Turkey which saw more attacks than any other in the history of the country.
In June, 47 people were killed in a triple suicide bombing and gun attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport, with authorities blaming IS.
Another 57 people, 34 of them children, were killed in August in a suicide attack by an IS-linked bomber at a Kurdish wedding in the southeastern city of Gaziantep.
Turkey is still reeling from a failed July 15 coup blamed by the government on the US-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen that has been followed by a relentless purge of his alleged supporters from state institutions.
The attack also comes as the Turkish army is waging a four-month incursion in Syria to oust IS jihadists and Kurdish militants from the border area.
The Turkish army and its Syrian rebel allies have been taking increasing casualties at Al-Bab in the bloodiest confrontation of the incursion so far.
Amid fears of another attack in Istanbul, at least 17,000 police officers were deployed in the city for this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Mourinho rules out loaning wantaway players

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out loaning any of his senior players who are looking to leave the club, saying they must exit Old Trafford for good instead.
Anthony MartialMorgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay have all been peripheral figures under Mourinho this season and could leave the club in the January transfer window.
West Brom has reportedly bid £13million for Schneiderlin, Sevilla are believed to be interested in signing Martial on loan, while Depay has been linked with a host of clubs in England and abroad.
Mourinho, though, confirmed that he has rejected all offers he has received so far, and that only young goalkeeper Sam Johnstone will be allowed to leave the club on loan for the foreseeable future.
“Sam Johnstone is the only player that I allow to go on loan because he doesn’t play one single minute, he needs to play,” Mourinho said.
“I don’t want to sell players – the club, the board are totally with me. But, as I said before, if a player is not having lots of minutes, and if a player really wants to leave, we have no right to stop the player to leave.
“Until this moment we have not received one single offer that we are going to accept.
“We have a young goalkeeper in Joel [Pereira], a goalkeeper that played many minutes in the last six months.
“For the development of both, Joel played six months in the Portuguese Premier League and now it’s time for Sam to play six months and that’s the only loan move we are going to do.

Bill Gates: We are vulnerable to flu epidemic in next decade

Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates says he is crossing his fingers that a deadly flu epidemic does not strike in the next 10 years because the world is "a bit vulnerable right now".
Mr Gates, whose foundation invests in improving global healthcare, said the Ebola and Zika crises showed the systems for responding to emergencies are still not strong enough.
He was speaking to Dame Sally Davies, the Chief Medical Officer for England. She revealed that her department had recently rehearsed a "nasty flu" scenario. She said in the UK the NHS was "pretty well prepared" but it would take at least six months from the start of a flu pandemic to get an effective vaccine.

Topmost global rating body: Nigeria’s economy will improve 2017

ONE of the world’s leading credit rating agencies, Moody’s, has cheerful news for Nigerians in 2017. It says the country’s economy and her dollar earnings are expected to improve in the new year.
The US-based top rating firm’s Vice President and Lead Analyst for Nigeria, Lucie Villa, said that Nigeria’s economy would bounce back to 2.5 per cent in 2017 from its 1.5 per cent contraction in 2016. Last July, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, had said that Nigeria was “technically” in recession and that militant activities in the Niger Delta had affected government’s revenue. But Adeosun had also been upbeat about the chances of an economic improvement, saying, “We are going to come out of it and it would be a very short one because the policies that we have would ensure that we don’t go below where we need to go.”
The minister’s positive outlook was also echoed by Villa who said, “We expect Nigeria’s economic growth to bounce back to 2.5 per cent in 2017, supported by an ongoing recovery in oil production. “The government’s balance sheet is strong, with debt at around 16.6 per cent of Gross Domestic Product in 2016. Also, despite its interest burden rising to 19.8 per cent of revenue, Nigeria’s capital markets remain a reliable and captive source of liquidity and funding for the government.”
Villa’s optimistic outlook largely agreed with the projections in Moody’s latest report, released last December. In the report, which rates Nigeria’s economy B1 (stable), the agency noted that the “stable outlook” was supported by the strength of the country’s balance sheet. In 2017 and 2018, the credit rating agency said it expected Nigeria’s balance of payments to move back into surplus.
Moody’s, however, said Nigeria’s weak institutional framework, especially in terms of “the rule of law, government effectiveness and control of corruption,” would have a significant impact on its economic growth and fiscal strength, and thereby constrain the B1 rating.
“The country is still exposed to political risks arising from both the conflict with Boko Haram and recurrent attacks on oil infrastructures in the Niger Delta,” Villa added. Moody’s also predicted that the Federal Government’s deficit would remain around two per cent in 2017 and 2018.
It said, “We forecast a general government budget deficit of three per cent of GDP in 2016, comprised of a two per cent of GDP Federal Government budget deficit and one per cent deficit split between state and municipal governments. We still assume that the authorities will not breach the statutory limit of three per cent imposed by the 2007 fiscal law, based on our view that they will reduce spending on a net basis if revenue collection underperforms.”
Moody’s stated further that two-thirds of 2017 real growth would come from the oil sector rebound alone, with a strong base effects expected in the second and third quarters.
“Nigeria’s large hydrocarbons reserves remain a key credit support: it has an estimated 37 billion barrels of oil (about 28 per cent of total African reserves) and nearly 34 billion of oil-equivalent in gas. Oil and gas exports tend to account for over 90 per cent of goods exports and a significant share of fiscal revenue (60-70% prior to the current oil shock). Our current oil price forecast are $45 per barrel in 2017 and $50 in 2018, compared to prices above $100 on average between 2010 and 2014,” Moody’s said.
Nigerian experts expressed similar views about the economy in 2017. According to the economists, the recovery will be slow, but if government increases productivity and implements the budget, Nigerians will have reasons to smile again. An economist, Bismarck Rewane, said, “In terms of the economic outlook, it is going to be a very slow recovery towards the middle of the year, but it will be consistent and steady. So, we are likely going to see some improvements but (it would be) very slow. You would see that happening about the second quarter of 2017.
“There is hope as long as we are more productive (in 2017). The economic outlook can be considered positive as long as everyone contributes to the productivity of the country. It is a good thing that violence across the country is being curtailed. People can work under peaceful conditions, especially those who were displaced from their homes. There is hope because the Federal Government is demonstrating strong commitment to curb corruption.”
A former Head of Economics Department, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Prof. Abayomi Adebayo, also agreed with Rewane. According to him, Nigerians should be hopeful because the 2017 budget appears credible. He said, “I believe there is hope because the budget appears to have credibility. There is hope because I believe this government will act appropriately and respond to active management of the economy to ensure sustainability and development.”
Similarly, an Associate Professor of Economics at the Ekiti State University, Abel Awe, said increased productivity would bring some cheer to the economy. He said, “There is hope for the economy in 2017. With increased productivity, we can expect the recession to decline. The Federal Government should adequately address issues in the real sector, foreign exchange and encourage foreign investments.
“The economic outlook for 2017 will remain positive as long as the government and those directly involved in managing the economy pay proper attention to the key drivers of the economy,” he said. However, other economic experts who spoke on the recession did not express as much optimism as Moody’s did. They stated that there were many challenges the Federal Government must overcome before any ray of hope could be sighted on the horizon, adding that so far, the government and its economic handlers had not fully demonstrated the will and know-how to get the economy out of the woods.
A professor of Economics at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Tella Sheriffdeen, said, “The current economic outlook of Nigeria is gloomy. There is nothing to cheer about it right now. If nothing is done to re-direct our economic path, we should expect harder times in 2017. The finance ministry and the Central Bank of Nigeria need to harmonise their contradicting policies to the extent that there will be liquidity in the system, which will enable people to borrow money and expand their businesses — there is the need to synchronise the fiscal and monetary policies.
“This also means that the Central Bank must bring down the interest rate. That expansion will increase goods output, which will consequently bring down the inflation rate in the country. There is the need for such alignment for the economy to move forward. Government has to do something about the exchange rate also. I have suggested to the Federal Government to change the colour of our currency’s higher denominations. This will make the naira to firm up again. India did that recently and it was successful.
The professor said more importantly, Nigeria needed to start producing goods, with the CBN encouraging credit. He said, “Non-oil sector should be widened to include not only agriculture but other aspects of the economy. The 2017 budget must be passed on time before the end of the first quarter so that money for capital projects can be released as quickly as possible — that is something that can generate employment and promote production of goods in the New Year. Maybe, if all these are done properly, we will come out of the recession by the end of 2017. But if the central bank continues to tighten its monetary policy because of inflation, I don’t know what the result will be. Inflation is not caused by monetary policies alone. It is caused by the absence of goods in relation to demand by the people.”
To stimulate the economy further, he stated that the country’s capital market should encourage and appeal to organisations like telecommunication firms to list on the stock exchange. According to him, having such companies listed gives credibility to the stock market which will in turn attract foreign investors. However, the Director General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management, Nigeria, Prof. Akpan Ekpo, offered hope but with a caveat.
He said, “If the government implements fully what it promised to do, around the third quarter of 2017, the recession might be abated. Therefore, 2017 still looks bleak. Unless the policies of the government, as contained in the 2017 budget, are effectively implemented, Nigerians will have to face the recession till the third or fourth quarter. To me, the economic outlook for 2017 is gloomy. But if they can implement the things they claimed they would do in the 2017 budget, we might start seeing some good signs in the economy next year (2017). Before then, the country has to continue to brace for hard times. There is no miracle against that.”
A Kaduna-based economist, Shadrack Madlion, painted a harsher picture, saying that government had failed to plan properly for the future. He said, “2017 will prove that a man who fails to plan has planned to fail. In terms of agriculture, Nigerians are going to face hunger because we are right now in the dry season. No nation survives on rainfall-dependent agriculture — that is what we have focused on for many years. Now, the Federal Government made a pronouncement that the nation would plant and eat what it grows. But that is not supported with action.
“We have more SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) in Nigeria than farm tractors. We have arable lands to produce enough food to eat but $12bn is depleted on food importation (annually). So, the economic outlook for 2017 speaks for itself: Nigeria’s economic outlook for 2017 is bleak. There is no correlation between what government says and what it does.”
Responding to the inquiry concerning the country’s 2017 economic outlook, the International Monetary Fund told our correspondent that the organisation’s country team for Nigeria would soon meet the Federal Government to deliberate on the economy and likely policy options.
It is only after the meeting, the global financial body stated, that it would be able to have informed responses as to whether Nigeria’s economic outlook for 2017 would be bright or bleak.
“As we have said before, Nigeria’s economy has been affected by a range of domestic and global developments, particularly lower oil receipts from the decline in both oil prices and oil production. The response to this requires an internally consistent and credible package of sustainable economic measures involving fiscal discipline, monetary tightening, banking sector strengthening, and structural reform.
“IMF staff are planning to conduct the annual Article IV discussions with the authorities during the first quarter of 2017. After that, we should have updated details on the authorities’ plans for economic recovery and the country’s economic outlook and growth plan for 2017,” a spokesperson for the IMF told our correspondent.

President Obama Dismantled Program Trump Intended to Use as Muslim Registry

President Obama took the plan out of commission and described it “not only as out-of-date but also an inefficient waste of resources.By now some Americans are aware that many of the things dastardly Don Trump promised throughout the presidential election were blatant lies to garner votes, and because his malicious mendacity is pathological. One area he is holding fast to is his 2015 statement calling for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims enter[ing] the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.” That statement is still front and center on the Trump’swebsite.
As recently as last week, Trump reiterated his intent, one that ISIS leaders hope he fulfills, to take some severe action against Muslims he claims are slaughtering Christians. He knows that is not the case, but it didn’t stop him from reminding reporters that he still hates Muslims and intends to punish them as he has indicated to audiences far and wide for the past year-and-a-half.
Last week after being asked if he will “rethink or reevaluate your plans to create a Muslim registry or ban Muslim immigration in the United States,” Trump replied: “Hey, you’ve known my plans all along and it’s, they’ve proven to be right. 100 percent correct. What’s happening is disgraceful.”
It may be the case that one of George W. Bush’s advisors whispering in the Trump’s ear had alerted him to a Bush administration program specifically created to register Muslims in America. It may also be the case that the Trump figured that since there is a Muslim registry program already in place, he could just sign an executive order and proceed terrorizing people he says are involved in the wrong religion. It is too bad for Trump, but that Bush program was quietly, and unceremoniously, dismantled last week by President Barack Obama
Since dirty Donald is so enamored with and embraces the Bush administration actors, advisors, and policies, he likely was planning on using the anti-Muslim “registry” Bush created and implemented shortly after the terror attacks on 9/11 as a tool to terrorize Muslims in America in 2017.
The program, known as the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS), has been in place since a gang of mostly Saudi criminals hijacked and flew commercial passenger jets into American buildings, but its operations were “suspended” in 2011. Although NSEERS was still in place, it was ‘suspended’ after 25 countries, 24 of which were Arab nations or majority Muslim populations, along with North Korea were taken off the registration list. With no list, there was no need for NSEERS.
That program originally required all men over the age of 16 from the “listed countries” to register and be fingerprinted when arriving in America; they also had to regularly “check in” with the immigration police. The initial Bush rules were considered too burdensome so the “regular check-in” aspect of the program was narrowed down to apply only to “targeted check ins” by 2003; eventually, it was entirely suspended.
However, the NSEERS program still existed and no doubt deceitful Donny figured he would take credit for creating it in 2001, and then begin tyrannizing Muslims as he has pledged to do to fulfill ISIS leaders’ expectations of a fascist in the White House. Now, despicable Don will actually have to create his own anti-Muslim registry program in its entirety because President Obama dismantled NSEERS so as not to make Trump’s anti-Muslim crusade any easier.
