Economic Freedom Fighters' President Julius Malema, admitted that the party's support for Busisiwe Mkhwebane as public protector was a "terrible mistake".
Malema was speaking on Monday at the party's media briefing on their plan of action for 2017.
When asked about how the party in hindsight, now felt about its choice to back Mkhwabane, Malema said she had proven without fail, that she was sent there to destroy the office of the public protector.
Mkhwebane took over from Thuli Madonsela in October 2016.
"We just took a Gupta puppet from Gupta's kitchen and went to plant her there (public protectors office)," Malema said.
During the selection process for the new public protector last August, Mkhwebane emerged as the favourite candidate. The Democratic Alliance however objected to the decision.
