CARLOS ALBERTO (FOOTBALL)
Alberto was a legendary Brazilian defender who captained his country to the 1970 Fifa World Cup title, scoring a magnificent fourth goal in the Final against Italy that is still widely regarded as one of the best in the history of the tournament. He made almost 750 club appearances in a 19-year career, playing in his homeland, most notably for Santos, and the USA. He won 53 caps for Brazil and scored eight goals. He died of heart failure on 25 October at the age of 72, one month after his twin brother Carlos Roberto passed away.
